About the event
Get your affairs in order! Wake has partnered with the amazing Pro Bono Project to provide simple legal paperwork for free. Visit Wake's table at the Krewe de Mayahuel block party at Beanlandia in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans, and get your Primary Right of Disposition form and/or a Living Will completed in minutes! This event is free and open to the public.
A primary right of disposition, otherwise known as a funeral and disposition of remains directive, is a declaration that gives the right to any adult of your choosing to make decisions about what happens with your body after death. A living will is a simple document that specifies your preferences for medical care in life, if you are unable to make decisions for yourself.
If you know an unmarried couple who may want to protect each person's right to have their partner make decisions about their deathcare, or if you know any individual who may be estranged from their family of origin, and who would prefer to have chosen family make deathcare decisions on their behalf, please let them know about this event.
Rachel Jokinen (she/her) will be representing The Pro Bono Project where she is Staff Attorney for Community Outreach and Successions. Since 1986, The Pro Bono Project has been dedicated to assisting low-income families, individuals, and the elderly, to gain access to lawyers and the legal system which they otherwise could not afford.
